Forget My Name
I’d like to think that time, experience, and the mix of trials, good moments, and hard seasons have given me a measure of usable wisdom. There are days when experience alone pulls me through whatever the day throws at me. Every now and then, people even turn to me for help—asking me to share some of that hard-earned wisdom. I might even give myself a quiet pat on the back for the collective sageness I’ve gathered.
But any wisdom I’ve picked up over the years has existed long before me. There’s nothing new or earth-shattering in my brain’s lexicon of insight. And yet, the pursuit of wisdom—the development of our own critical thinking—is so often ignored… and not always encouraged by our leaders, teachers, or communities.
This new song is a reflection of all that. I borrowed every line from ancient texts about wisdom, with the repeating catchphrase: “These words will never fade away, but you will all forget my name.”
If you’re interested in learning more about songwriting, check out my new online courses at The Songwriter Workshop.
And if you ever find yourself wandering around YouTube, I’ve launched a new channel focused on songwriting and training less-experienced musicians, songwriters, and creatives.
Cheers,
Chris
